Jonathan Garcia
Board Member

Jonathan (he/him) moved to Oakland in 2018. Jonathan is a Texas transplant where he was raised and spent most of his life. As his interest in healthcare and medicine grew, Jonathan started as a junior volunteer at the local hospital during his junior and senior high school levels. He then moved to Denton where he attended the University of North Texas and obtained his BA in Psychology and Addiction Studies. Throughout his undergrad years, Jonathan continued to work and volunteer. He became involved with the special needs populations and started work as a group home caregiver. That led him to a caseworker position with the state of Texas working with the Developmentally Disabled/Dual Diagnosis population.

Jonathan then moved to Dallas to explore future career options within Healthcare that allowed him to work in national healthcare recruiting for Locum Tenens physicians to work in high need hospitals in locations with a shortage of physicians. This position led him to a move to Baylor Healthcare Systems where he worked in Patient Access supporting various hospitals throughout the DFW metroplex. It was there that Jonathan decided to pursue the next step in his education and received his MBA in Healthcare Management through an accelerated Master’s program with the University of Texas at Tyler.

After completing his MBA, Jonathan moved back home to Odessa after accepting a position as an Office Manager for a busy Dental clinic. Jonathan worked closely alongside with the physicians and patients that came into his clinic. It was there that Jonathan knew that medical school was the next move in his educational journey.

Today, Jonathan is a current Podiatric Medical Student in the Bay Area. He started volunteering with Oakland LGBTQ Community Center and with medical clinics outside of school so that he could start to get to know the population and community that he will be one day be serving as a Podiatric Physician. He is excited to work with the Oakland LGBTQ Community Center because he truly believes that fostering health, education, and a sense of community is the cornerstone of living a full life. He is also passionate about bolstering the Latinx community and making sure that future generations have the same opportunity to reach as high as they possibly can, knowing that they have their community is lifting them up and supporting them the whole way.

The Center is wheelchair accessible, ADA compliant and has an elevator.
